Round 3 of the Innovation fund targeted marginalised sub-sectors of the extreme poor who have traditionally been excluded from state and non-state development programmes, including elderly people, the physically challenged, religious or ethnic minorities. It called for innovative responses to bringing these marginalised and excluded groups within the remit of extreme poverty programming, and provided funding to 7 NGOs who devised solutions to supporting the most marginalised amongst the extreme poor. Examples of innovations tested under Round 3: include supporting street-dwelling populations to establish and brand/market independent food vending businesses; supporting disability-friendly IGA development for physically challenged extreme poor in Dhaka; IGA development and khas land access for the ‘untouchable’ population; skills development and employment generation for rural youth; and economic empowerment of street children.
