The team at shiree, along with Harewelle international and PMTC Bangladesh, welcomes Md. Asadul Islam as the new Project Director of the Economic Empowerment of the Poorest in Bangladesh (EEP), an initiative of the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division of the Government of the Peoples` Republic of Bangladesh in partnership with the UKaid from the Department for International Development of the British Government.
Mr. Islam is a Joint Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh. He has long working experience in field administration as well as in the Ministries and Directorates. Prior to joining the EEP team, he was the Director Admin in the Directorate of Relief & Rehabilitation. Earlier, he has worked as the Assistant Commissioner (Finance), Magistrate 1st Class, Upazila Magistrate, General Certificate Officer, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional District Magistrate, Senior Assistant Secretary and as a Deputy Secretary.
Mr. Islam has obtained his Master of Science in Entomology from the University of Dhaka in the year 1978(held 1981). He has joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) through the Special BCS 1982 as a Magistrate. He stood 1st in the 46th Senior Staff Course in the BPATC. He is mentoring the MATT2 (Management at the Top-2) PIP Team for the 3rd time (a GOB and DFID initiative under the Ministry of Establishment).
Mr. Islam was an important contributing member in the launching of Early Warning Cell Broadcasting System through cell phones (a Disaster Management & Relief Division and A2I initiative of the Govt.) He has contributed in the CDMP Phase-1(Component 3b and ICT) as a resource person on Disaster Management collaboration between DFID and DM&R Division). He has received the training on Disaster Management in South Korea; Post Tsunami Disaster Management Training in Sri Lanka (a UK Govt. and Bournemouth University initiative) and Disaster Management Training arranged by the SAARC Disaster Management Centre, New Delhi.
Among his dissertation Papers “Prospective Crocodile Farming: an initiative in the Bhaluka Upazila of the Mymensingh District” and ” Status of the Primary Stipend Project in the Trishal Upazila of the Mymensingh District” is notable.
Mr. Islam is the life member of the Dhaka University Registered Graduate; life member of the Dhaka University Alumni Association; Vice President of Dhaka University Zoologists1978 Forum; member of the West End High School `71 forum; and member of the Officer`s Club, Dhaka.
